Excited to announce the latest update of the **Modelling User Interface for OSeMOSYS (MUIO)** — a platform designed to streamline data management, model creation, and scenario analysis for energy system planning.

The new **v5.7** release introduces several enhancements aimed at improving performance, flexibility, and usability.

**Note:** Please back up your existing models before upgrading to 5.7

Thanks for v5.7! Good to see the search bar updates this year, Would it be possible to also bring a filter or search bar to the technology columns in an upcoming release? We would love a quick way to find specific technologies and input values for parameters like:

- **Total Technology Model Period Activity Upper/Lower Limit**
- **Operational Life**
- **Capacity To Activity Unit**
- **Discount Rate Idv**

Right now, horizontally scrolling through dozens of columns to enter data takes a lot of time. Adding a column filter grid would be a fantastic usability upgrade for v5.8!

It would also be highly intuitive from an economic planning standpoint if financial parameters like **Variable Cost** , **Fixed Cost** , and **Capital Cost** could be grouped together within the same dropdown menu view, even if the backend handles their operational dimensions differently.

Currently working with v5.6, please advise on effective backup before upgrade, thanks

Dear @Chikason, If you want to move to version 5.7, you will need to download all your current models from MUIO and save them in a folder. Then, install MUIO 5.7 and upload all the models back into the new version.

The changes are particularly useful for reducing computation time in larger models (more than 10 timeslices, 200 technologies, and 100 commodities). If this is not the case for your models and you want to avoid spending time on the migration, you can finish your projects using version 5.6.

Very good to see this update,

however I could not find the definition of the newly created ‘OperationalProfile’ variable.

I am working with differentiated discount rate, I could not find if it is possible to apply it to storage?

I am getting quite long processing time (96 time slices - 50technologies - 2 storage, 2 discrete technologies ) on my laptop (50mn per run), I tried to run my model with Highs but could not make it! So being able to choose the solve would be very interesting!

debugging the model can be very time consuming, some simple check from MUIO could help find inconsistencies like if “residual capacity”, “total annual max capacity” and “total annual max capacity investment” are incoherent.

Best

Dear @CorentinAmi,

Regarding your questions:

1. I haven’t installed the new version yet, as I still have several projects to finish in version 5.6. However, the operational profile is supposed to be a parameter, and its definition should be displayed by clicking the question mark icon, as shown in the example below.

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/loughborough/original/1X/3a5c57f478a6fb9a290a21039593653918dd85b6.png)

2. You cannot apply the discount rate directly to the storage technology. However, you can use the virtual technology representing the charger/inverter to account for the discount rate by assigning the appropriate value to the `discount rate idv` parameter

1. You can download the processed data file from the MUIO root folder and use it alongside the model’s `.txt` file to solve the model using HiGHS. The folder path is as follows (using this example): `C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\muio\app-5.6.0\resources\app\app\WebAPP\DataStorage`

4. You can use the available validation checks to identify potential inconsistencies in the results tab by clicking the icon shown in the image below.

Thank you for your answers, however for ‘operation profile’, the question mark is empty. When clicking on it, nothing happens.

Thank you for other answers, they are very helpfull!

Dear @CorentinAmi,

We’ll be organising a webinar with the developers about this new release to address these types of questions. Please stay tuned for updates on the forum.
