We are delighted to announce that the Energy Modelling Community (EMC) Mentorship Programme is being launched in one week’s time, on 19 January!
The EMC Mentorship Programme will be a one-to-one, mentoring opportunity that is open for the community to apply to, either to become a mentor or a mentee.
This will be demand-driven by the requests of the mentees and success will be monitored over a period of up to 18 months. You can make a request for mentorship to cover anything from the production of an academic paper to 3 months of mentorship for teaching support - whatever you need. The amount of time will depend on the request and ideally be set by the mentee, with the help of CCG members and mentors.
Mentor applications will open first, following the Launch Webinar on Monday 19 January. They will be open for 2 weeks until Monday 2 February. Please join us for the webinar if you can and keep an eye out for how you can apply.
After this, Mentee applications will open on Tuesday 3 February and they will be open for 3 weeks, closing on Tuesday 24 February.
PLEASE SIGN UP HERE: Webinar Registration - Zoom
We know also have a new channel on this forum. Namely ‘The Mentorship Helpline’. This channel should be used for mentors and mentees once the programme begins. But, in the meantime, please add any questions you might have into the channel and we will get back to you there…
See you all on Monday!

Such a great idea! It will sure help many of us (myself included!). Thanks for your great work in developing this community!
Glad to hear @PatrickL
- do you plan to apply as a mentor or mentee?
Hello Mr Alexander,
Thanks for reaching out! I am thinking about applying as a mentee. I have just started out with modeling and Osemosys. Maybe once I’ll have a more solid base with modelling and osemosys, I would most certainly be happy to be a mentor, but I am not there yet…
For your information, I am planning of using Osemosys for my PhD research project. I am interested in adapting/applying Osemosys to model a local energy system for a municipal territory. I would like to test the impacts of certains land-use planning practices on energy demands.
I have an agreement with a borough in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and different partnerships with various universities (ETS, HEC Montreal - GERAD, Polytechnique Montreal, Université Laval) and governements. One partner is developing building archetypes (similar to the ones developed by the US DOE) and I will try to use Osemosys with those archetypes. I am presently in my data gathering phase, and I will shortly begin filling up the Osemosys with such data. We will see how this goes, but if Osemosys is the right tool for such work, it could be replicable in different local municipalities willing to realize local energy plans.
Your mentoring opportunity arrives at the right time!
Anyways, you seem to be doing great work with all this community! Keep on the good work!
Yours,

Best, Kane.
