CONSTANT GRID LCOE

HI,

I’m Running some subnational analysis in Kenya. The LCOE for the grid option is a single constant value that I have struggled to explain. What could be causing this?

Dear Adrian,

When a settlement is already electrified by the grid in the previous time-step, the model assigns the grid LCOE to be the same as the grid electricity generation cost. In your results, it seems like there is no extension of the grid (i.e. only settlements that were connected to the grid in 2019 are connected to the grid in 2030). I believe this might be because of low demand levels in this scenario.

Dear Andreas,

Thank you for taking your time to review the results, and for the feedback.

Indeed the demand levels are very low for most scenarios.
I have understood the constant grid costs. However, how can I account for the relatively high grid capital costs? I had scenarios where the SHS investments are USD 11m vs USD 290m for grid?

I hope to pick your brain for more insights going forward.

Regards,
Adrian
