Hand-on Progress Report

On the model configuration page for MUIO V5.6, the modes of operation was changed to 2 for HO8(Battery Storage), going forward, I like to confirm if the modes of operation should be left as 2 or changed to 1, please also share your reason(s), thanks

Keep the modes of operation set to 2 going forward.

Here is the simple reason why:

  • Mode 1 is for Charging: The battery takes power in.
  • Mode 2 is for Discharging: The battery sends power out.

A battery needs to do two opposite things (fill up and empty out). In OSeMOSYS, one mode can only do one thing. If you change it to 1, the battery will only be able to charge or discharge, but not both.

Hope it clears your concern.

Many thanks. Understood

Hello everyone,
I’ve been finding it difficult to get the exact type of graphs found in the hands-on manual. For HO9, I have attached what I got after running the model vs the expected result in the manual. I would really appreciate if someone clarify what I’m not doing correctly

please advise

Dear @Chikason, They remain at 2, since the battery will continue to be part of the model for the rest of the hands-on exercises in the course.

Dear @Chikason, Could you please share the ZIP file of your model so it can be compared? There could be several possible reasons for the issue.

Hello,
I have attached the zip file as advised. I have had some difficulties with my hands-on results, thus slowing down my progress.

Many thanks for your support

(Attachment OSeHO9.zip is missing)

I guess I may not able to share the ZIP file here, I got this response after I tried

Details:
OSeHO9.zip: Sorry, the file you are trying to upload is not authorized (authorized extensions: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, heic, heif, webp, avif).

Please advise, thanks

Dear @Chikason, you can share a google drive or onedrive link with your file.

Sure, here

Hello Community,
I look forward to your valuable advise as always, many thanks .

Here is the link, please

Dear @Chikason,

I have compared the input files using AI and the differences are the following:

MINBIO, the biomass supply, is missing from the first file. Nothing produces BIO there, so PWRBIO can’t run in that model. The correct file adds:

  • TotalTechnologyAnnualActivityUpperLimit: MINBIO = 30 every year.
  • CapitalCost: MINBIO = 0.001.
  • VariableCost: MINBIO = 7.1 in mode 1.
  • OutputActivityRatio: MINBIO produces BIO at 1.
  • OperationalLife: MINBIO 1 → 100.

CapitalCost:

  • PWRWND is shifted one year. The first file starts at 0 in 2021 and ends at 995. The correct file runs 1450 (2021) to 960 (2035). As it stands, wind is free in 2021.
  • PWRBIO: 0.001 → 2200.
  • MINHYD: the first file has the year numbers (2021, 2022, … 2035) pasted in as costs. The correct value is 0.001.

Please adjust the values accordingly and rerun the model.

many thanks @Fernando_Plazas , I will make the adjustments and revert.
